Highway 18 San Bernadino Crash Kills 1

A young man died and a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer and a white Volkswagen sedan on Palmdale Road on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

San Bernardino County Fire Department and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials responded to the collision in the area of Palmdale and Cobalt roads around 4:30 p.m. Christopher Sosa, the white sedan owner was found dead at the scene. His 14-year-old passenger suffered critical injuries and was airlifted from Palmdale Road, east of Cobalt Road to Loma Linda University Medical Center. A witness at the scene stated the boy complained of leg pain and had abrasions on his face.

Sheriff’s officials believe that the white Volkswagon Passat was traveling eastbound on Palmdale Road speeding, cutting off several people and veering in and out of traffic. As the Passat approached Cobalt Road, Christopher Sosa veered across the center divider and into oncoming traffic. He was unable to merge back into eastbound lanes, Sosa struck a tractor-trailer head-on and collided with two other vehicles.

Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that deputies investigating the scene Thursday night met with drivers who were not obeying the road closure signs and markers. Seven vehicles allegedly drove around the closure markers and the drivers were cited.
