Estes Valley Planning Commission

The Estes Valley Planning Commission meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room of Town Hall, 170 MacGregor Avenue, Estes Park.
A study session, which is open to the public, is held at the Town Hall prior to each Planning Commission meeting. The starting time of the study session varies depending on the length of the agenda. Be sure to check the current agenda for the study session meeting time and room number.

What is the Estes Valley Planning Commission?
The Estes Valley Planning Commission is a joint Town/County commission that reviews development proposals and subdivision proposals within the Estes Valley, both inside and outside the Town of Estes Park.

Who serves on the Estes Valley Planning Commission and how are they selected?
The commission consists of seven volunteer appointed members. Four members are appointed by the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners; three members are selected by the Town of Estes Park Board of Trustees. Members must reside in their respective areas of the Estes Valley. When vacancies occur, residents may apply to serve on the Commission by contacting the Community Development Department at 970-577-3725. Appointments are made following application and an interview process. Interested residents are encouraged to participate in the Town's annual Citizen Information Academy program.

Are the County Commissioners still involved with land use decisions in the Estes Valley?
The final decision-making authority for development plans rests with the Estes Valley Planning Commission. The final decision-making authority for all other proposals located outside the city limits of the Town of Estes Park rests with the Larimer County Commissioners. The final decision-making authority for all other proposals located inside the city limits of the Town of Estes Park rests with the Town of Estes Park Board of Trustees. Any revisions to the jointly adopted Estes Valley Development Code, the governing document, are considered and adopted through a public hearing process that is held before the respective elected boards, with each acting independently.

The Estes Valley Planning Commission meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Town Hall. Each meeting begins with an opportunity for residents to address the Planning Commission on any general topic of interest. You may view current proposals by clicking here.
