Grandstand Construction Project
The Fairgrounds at Stanley Park
On December 17th the Mayor, Town
Trustees, Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority (EPURA) Commissioners,
Town Administrators and local residents gathered at The Fairgrounds
at Stanley Park for the new grandstand’s official groundbreaking
ceremony.
When completed, the facility will feature a
seating capacity of approximately 2,700 compared to the old
grandstand’s 2,169. Also included in the design are two ticket
booths, a small multi-purpose office, restrooms and a concession
stand. The new structure will offer spectators a safe environment
for viewing events, as well as become a key element in tying the
entire facility together architecturally within the fairgrounds
master plan.
Demolition work began in mid-October with an
effort made to ensure the project was environmentally responsible.
It’s estimated that 98 percent of the gross weight of the original
grandstand structure and its concrete foundation – about 470 tons of
material – was reused or recycled in various projects across the
state.
The $2.12 million project is a joint venture
between the Town of Estes Park and EPURA and is scheduled to be
completed in time to launch the 2010 summer season at the
fairgrounds. The Town of Estes Park has pledged $1 million to the
project from its Community Reinvestment Fund, with EPURA providing
the remainder of the monies.
