What is the Estes Valley Board of Adjustment?
The Estes Valley Board of Adjustment is a joint Town/County board that reviews variance requests within the Estes Valley, both inside and outside the Town of Estes Park.

Who serves on the Estes Valley Board of Adjustment and how are they selected?
The board consists of five volunteer appointed members. Two members are appointed by the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners; three members are selected by the Town of Estes Park Board of Trustees; one alternate member is jointly appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and Town Board of Trustees. Members must reside in their respective areas of the Estes Valley. When vacancies occur, residents may apply to serve on the Board by contacting the Community Development Department at 970-577-3725. Appointments are made following application and an interview process. Interested residents are encouraged to participate in the Town's annual Citizen Information Academy program.

Are the County Commissioners still involved with variance decisions in the Estes Valley?
The Estes Valley Board of Adjustment has final decision-making authority over variance requests. Any revisions to the jointly adopted Estes Valley Development Code, the governing document, are considered and adopted through a public hearing process that is held before the Board of County Commissioners and Town Board of Trustees, with each acting independently.

How can I learn more about current variance requests?
The Estes Valley Board of Adjustment meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Board Room of the Town Hall, unless the preceding Monday is a holiday, in which case the Board will meet on the second Tuesday of the month. You may view current variance requests by clicking here. Planning staff is available to discuss current applications and to answer questions at 970-577-3721.
